Forget The Cadillac XT6, This Is GM’s Fanciest Crossover
  • GMC has introduced the 2026 Acadia Denali Ultimate as their flagship crossover.
  • It features a lightly revised exterior with a Vader Chrome grille and 22-inch wheels.
  • The interior has Woodland Mahogany leather seats and laser-etched wood trim.

The Denali sub-brand has been a huge success for GMC as over 30% of customers opt for the range-topping trim. This enthusiasm pushed the brand to introduce an even more exclusive Denali Ultimate.

});

A staple of the Sierra 1500 and Yukon, the Denali Ultimate trim is now expanding to the Acadia for 2026. It builds on the regular Denali, but is distinguished by a unique exterior with a Vader Chrome grille and 22-inch aluminum wheels sporting an After Midnight metallic finish. Buyers will also find special badging, a Vader Chrome GMC logo, and LED daytime running lamps with an animated lighting sequence.

First Look: Redesigned GMC Acadia Goes Big On Luxury And Offers Lifted AT4 Trim

While the exterior is a little subdued, the interior looks fantastic thanks to Woodland Mahogany leather front seats with topographical accents and plaited contrast stitching. They’re joined by black accents and prominent Ultimate badging on the backrests. Needless to say, the seats are also heated, ventilated, and offer a massage function.

The topographical accents extend to the laser-etched Paldao wood trim and door panels. Customers will also find unique floor mats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 16-speaker Bose premium audio system. They’re joined by Super Cruise, an 8-inch head-up display, a power liftgate, and a performance suspension that delivers an “exceptional ride and handling balance.”

GMC didn’t mention powertrain details, so the model likely has a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 328 hp (245 kW / 333 PS) and 326 lb-ft (442 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.

Besides the new Denali Ultimate, the 2026 GMC Acadia now comes standard with a rear camera mirror. It enables drivers to easily switch between a traditional rearview mirror and a digital one.

The 2026 Acadia will arrive at dealerships in the third quarter, while the Denali Ultimate will follow later this year. There’s no word on pricing, but we can likely expect a small increase over the current base price of $43,000 before a $1,495 destination fee.

You’ve Never Been Spoiled Like This In A Lexus Back Seat Before
  • Lexus has updated the LM500h in Japan, improving the experience for the rear passengers.
  • The four-seater version gains brighter interior lights, a small tray, and a relocated door switch.
  • Luxury minivan also benefits from extra insulation, reducing noise and vibrations inside the cabin.

Even the most luxurious vehicles have room to grow, and that includes the Lexus LM, a high-end minivan known for blending premium comfort with practicality, though it has never been offered in the States. Now, Lexus has rolled out a lightly updated version of the LM500h in Japan, aimed squarely at improving passenger comfort and day-to-day usability.

Don’t bother to look for any visual updates on the exterior, as the second-generation LM retains the original design introduced in 2023. Instead, Lexus has turned its attention inward, refining the cabin with small but thoughtful updates that make a noticeable difference for those in the back seats.

Quieter, Smarter, More Convenient

One of the key upgrades is a quieter ride. Additional vibration-damping and sound-absorbing materials have been added around the rear wheel arches and tailgate area, cutting down on ambient noise and creating a more serene interior.

In the four-seat Executive trim, Lexus has also made a practical tweak: the power sliding door switch has been moved from the ceiling to the center console between the rear seats. This simple change means passengers no longer have to reach up or stand to operate the doors.

The center console now also features a small tray designed for smartphones and personal items. On top of that, a new overhead light has been added to illuminate the floor near the rear doors, making it easier to step in and out of the cabin at night.

Subtle Enhancements Across the Range

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“9b1169d9-7a89-4971-a77f-1397f7588751”);
}
});

Both the four-seater Executive and the entry-level six-seater Version L trims gain brighter interior lights, creating a more pleasant atmosphere. Still, if you feel like the new setting is a bit too much, you can always adjust the brightness according to your liking.

There are no changes to the hybrid powertrain of the LM500h, which has a combined output of 366 hp (273 kW / 371 PS) from a 2.4-liter turbo engine and dual electric motors. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Orders for the updated LM500h open in Japan on August 1. Pricing for the six-seat Version L remains unchanged at ¥15,000,000 (around $101,000), while the Executive trim sees a slight increase, now starting at ¥20,000,000 (approximately $134,700), up ¥100,000 ($673) from before. Similar updates are likely to make their way to other markets in the near future.

This 14-Year-Old Van Refuses To Die And Somehow Keeps Getting New Gear
  • Nissan updates its 14-year-old Caravan with new trim packages and interior improvements.
  • Outdoor Black Edition adds rugged looks with dark accents and off-road styling cues.
  • Powertrains remain unchanged with a 2.0L gas or 2.5L diesel engine and up to 4WD options.

While a new-generation Elgrand minivan is rumored for a late 2025 debut, Nissan is giving some attention to the Caravan in the meantime. This long-serving, 14-year-old LCV-based model gets a mild update with a focus on comfort and usability. The latest version adds upgraded front seats, a larger navigation display, enhanced driver assistance systems, and a handful of new trims tailored for outdoor-focused buyers.

More: Nissan Caravan 50th Anniversary Edition Makes The Best Out Of The Aging Van

Despite its age, the Caravan doesn’t receive any exterior design changes for the 2026 model year. What it does gain is a new trim called the Premium GX Outdoor Black Edition, which includes black accents on the grille, bumper, mirrors, and door handles. It’s a subtle visual tweak, but one that gives the van a slightly more rugged presence.

New Trim Levels with Outdoor Flair

What is more interesting is the optional “Sotoasobi Package”, which is inspired by earlier concepts based on the X-Trail. This version includes a matte satin black hood wrap to help protect against stone chips, bolt-on-style fender flares from JAOS, and a special emblem on the front doors. Nissan says this styling package will appear on more models in the future.

The lineup also expands with the Caravan Autech Line. It comes fitted with 15-inch alloy wheels and waterproof upholstery inside the cabin. While it doesn’t share the more distinctive grille, LED lighting, or front splitter found on the standard Autech model, buyers can opt for a rear spoiler and the available Black Package to complete the look.

Inside, all variants of the Caravan receive updated front seats for both driver and passenger. These now offer enhanced spinal support and better cushioning, thanks to memory foam construction. The tech sees a small bump too, with a new 9-inch navigation system and updated safety features, including Nissan’s Intelligent Cruise Control system.

Familiar Powertrain Options

Mechanically, there are no changes to the Caravan’s ladder-frame chassis or engine options. Buyers can choose between a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 129 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque, or a 2.5-liter diesel sourced from Mitsubishi delivering 130 hp (97 kW / 132 PS) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. Both engines are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and can be configured with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The updated Nissan Caravan will go on sale in Japan on August 25. Pricing ranges between ¥2,708,200-5,639,000 ($18,200-37,900), depending on the chosen configuration. As for the Sotoasobi Package, it is available as an option for an extra ¥198,155 ($1,300). Finally, Nissan will also introduce a similarly-updated version of the MyRoom camper this autumn.

Though the Caravan (NV350) has been on the market since 2011 with facelifts in 2017 and 2021, it’s not the oldest van in its segment. That title still belongs to the Toyota HiAce (H200), which first launched in 2004 and continues to sell with only modest updates.

This Buyer Got A Street-Legal Lordstown Endurance And A Lifetime Of Regret
  • Lordstown only produced 31 trucks before going bankrupt and shutting down operations.
  • One unit recently sold at auction for just $22,750 with only 1,600 miles on the odometer.
  • Unlike others, this specific truck comes with an official title making it legally roadworthy.

Plenty of automotive startups launch with big ambitions, but few ever reach the point of delivering an actual vehicle. Lordstown was one of the rare exceptions, albeit briefly. The company did make it to production, but only managed to build 31 units before shutting down.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106-c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”);
} else {

}
});

This Endurance pickup is one of those few and, reportedly, the only one that was ever issued a proper title. It just sold at auction for about the price of a new Nissan Versa.

On paper, the Endurance was an intriguing truck. It features in-hub electric motors at each wheel and offers a combined 440 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It leveraged a 109 kWh battery pack and had an EPA estimated range of 174 miles. That’s not very far, but this truck is capable of DC fast charging, which seemed like a potential saving grace.

Read: Mitsubishi And Foxconn Explore Partnership For EVs

Despite all that, Lordstown could never get itself together as a company and at one point, it might have accidentally sold itself to Foxconn at a huge discount. Things didn’t go well in the end, but this truck did manage to sneak out. Vitally, this one has a real Michigan title, which is something we’ve never seen before, with other Lordstown trucks being sold with bills of sale.

A Rare Truck You Can Actually Register

Having a title means the guy who just bought this one for a cool $22,500 can actually drive it around wherever he wants. Sure, it doesn’t have stellar range, and sure, he’ll never get any support from the defunct company when something breaks. But he just paid less than what Slate advertises for its hopeful and very bare bones trucklet.

Still, it’s a reasonable price for a functioning slice of electric vehicle history, assuming, of course, that nothing goes wrong or breaks. And that’s a big assumption. Because if it does, well, good luck to everyone involved.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“9b1169d9-7a89-4971-a77f-1397f7588751”);
}
});

The buyer says that they were a major Lordstown shareholder, so owning the truck, the only one on public roads, is a personal win after being let down so hard by the brand itself. Keep your eyes peeled next time you’re at a Cars and Coffee. If this thing rolls by, you’ll know exactly where it came from.

This Buick Sedan Has 870 Miles Of Range But It’s Not Coming To America
  • Buick has launched the Electra L7 in China under its new Electra sub-brand.
  • It rides on the new Xiao Yao architecture, offering BEV and EREV options.
  • The EREV version has 502 hp of power and 870 miles of combined range.

While Buick’s presence in the US is now all about crossovers and SUVs, the brand is taking a different route in China, where the traditional sedan still has a place. The all-new Electra L7 joins Buick’s lineup in the world’s biggest automotive market, bringing sleek styling, a high-tech interior, and electrified powertrains.

Electra is Buick’s sub-brand for new energy vehicles; it was formally announced in April 2025, with three concepts: a sedan, an SUV, and a minivan. The Electra L7 is the production version of the sedan, which evolves from the 2024 Electra L concept shown the previous year.

More: Buick’s Electric Crossover Just Got A Lot Better In China

The model retains much of the design language introduced in the concept, though a few features have been streamlined for production. The lighting signature at both ends has been reworked, with more practical LED graphics. Furthermore, the sleek, flush door handles and traditional side mirrors replace some of the show car’s more experimental elements, bringing it closer to real-world usability.

Buick is proud of the wing-shaped “Galaxy” headlights and the turbine-style alloy wheels. The Electra L7 adopts an aerodynamic fastback silhouette measuring 5,032 mm (198.1 inches) long, 1,952 mm (76.9 inches) wide, and 1,500 mm (59.1 inches) tall, with a generous 3,000 mm (118.1 inches) wheelbase. This makes it slightly longer than the Tesla Model S and the Mercedes-Benz EQE, and incrementally shorter than the BMW i5.

Inside, a Tech Showcase Awaits

While Buick hasn’t yet shown the cabin, it promised “class‑leading intelligent driver-assist capabilities, a smart luxury cockpit and best‑in‑class extended‑range technology”.

The Electra L7 is expected to feature a total of eight screens, a massive 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, and an array of AI-driven features. All of this will run on Qualcomm’s 8775 chip, which supports high-end infotainment and connectivity. Driver assistance tech will come from Chinese tech company Momenta, which has developed a suite of sophisticated ADAS capabilities.

New Platform with EREV and BEV Options

The sedan is just one of six new energy models Buick plans to launch in the next year, likely alongside production versions of Electra’s SUV and minivan concepts. All of them will be built on Buick’s Xiao Yao architecture, a flexible platform designed specifically for China. These underpinnings are compatible with fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender powertrains, in FWD, RWD, and AWD layouts.

More: Buick’s New Sedan Concept Rivals The S-Class In Size

The Electra L7 will be initially available with a range-extender setup. A SAIC-sourced turbocharged 1.5-liter engine produces 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and 230 Nm of torque, and is solely used for charging the 40.2 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. Powering the wheels are dual electric motors, generating 164 hp (122 kW / 166 PS) at the front and 338 hp (252 kW / 343 PS) at the rear, for a combined output of 502 hp (374 kW / 509 PS).

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};

} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“e46c436a-adeb-4b5e-a2c7-56bc36561c10”);
}
});

According to Buick, the EREV version is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). More importantly, it has a combined range of 1,400 km (870 miles), including an EV-only range of 302 km (188 miles) which is measured under the CLTC protocols. As for the average fuel consumption, this is limited to 0.5 lt/100km (470 MPG).

In the future, the sedan will also be available in fully electric form, with a CATL-supplied battery and a 900V architecture. This is expected to be compatible with ultra-fast charging, adding as much as 350 km (218 miles) of range in 10 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

The Electra L7 is described as a “300,000-class vehicle”, meaning it will be priced close to ¥300,000 ($41,800) in China. Buick hasn’t announced a date for the market launch, but is already accepting applications of interest for test drives.

As with other Electra-branded models, the L7 is likely to stay exclusive to China, so a US launch doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Production will take place at the factory of the SAIC-GM joint venture in Wuhan.

Buick has sold over 10 million vehicles in China since 1998. Its local lineup offers a much wider choice of models compared to that in the US, including four SUVs, four sedans, one hatchback, and a range of minivans.

Mitsubishi Launches New Three-Row SUV That’s Not The Pajero
  • Mitsubishi Destinator debuts as a three-row SUV with ICE power for ASEAN markets.
  • Built on a front-wheel-drive platform shared with the smaller Mitsubishi Xforce.
  • Features a 161 hp turbo engine, CVT gearbox, and five drive modes for varied terrain.

The SUV craze shows no sign of slowing down, with automakers continuing to expand their lineups to meet global demand. Mitsubishi is the latest to add to the mix, introducing a new entry tailored for ASEAN markets. The all-new Destinator, unveiled in Indonesia, is a three-row SUV designed with families in mind and built to handle a variety of road conditions.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {

}
});

While the exterior might bear some resemblance to the recent spy shots of the upcoming Pajero, the Destinator is a whole different story. The production version of the Mitsubishi DST concept from last year rides on a FWD platform derived from the smaller Xforce. However, it gets a more potent turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

While the overall look may remind some of the camouflaged Pajero prototypes seen recently, the Destinator follows its own path. Based on last year’s DST concept, it rides on a front-wheel-drive platform shared with the smaller Xforce. Under the hood, it’s equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

More: Mitsubishi’s Best-Selling Vehicle Is Going Hybrid-Only For 2026

The non-electrified powertrain is exclusively mated to a CVT gearbox, sending power to the front wheels. Still, the comfort-tuned suspension, the five available drive modes, and the generous ground clearance make the Destinator suitable for the rough roads and harsh weather conditions of the target markets.

From the outside, the Destinator stays true to the original concept with a commanding grille, aggressive LEDs, and a sculpted bodywork. Still, some details have been toned down for production, including the slightly redesigned bumpers and lightning units, as well as the conventional mirrors and thicker pillars. The 18-inch alloy wheels look a bit small for its size, but the proportions are better than your average budget-oriented three-row SUV.

Size and Interior Layout

In terms of dimensions, the Destinator measures 4,680 mm (184.3 inches) in length and has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm (110.8 inches). It’s slightly shorter than the Mitsubishi Outlander but offers a longer wheelbase by 110 mm (4.3 inches), which should translate to better interior space.

Inside, the SUV accommodates seven passengers in a classic three-row arrangement, with multiple storage compartments throughout. Mitsubishi hasn’t disclosed the exact cargo volume, though with all seats upright, space appears quite limited. Folding the second and third rows flat, however, opens up a sizable load area for hauling gear or luggage.

Cabin Tech and Features

Compared to the concept, the digital cockpit feels a bit more utilitarian. It includes a 12.3-inch infotainment display and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, both set in a glossy black frame. The overall layout is reminiscent of the Xforce, though the dashboard and center console have been modestly redesigned. Available features include a Yamaha-branded premium sound system, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

} else {

}
});

The Destinator will make its first public appearance at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show on July 23, with sales beginning immediately in Indonesia. Additional rollouts are planned across ASEAN countries including Vietnam and the Philippines, along with broader availability in South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The SUV will be built at Mitsubishi Motors’ Krama Yudha facility in Indonesia.

Mitsubishi’s Best-Selling Vehicle Is Going Hybrid-Only For 2026
  • Mitsubishi has introduced the facelifted Outlander PHEV, which features revised styling and an upgraded powertrain.
  • The company also announced the standard Outlander is getting a new hybrid engine that replaces the 2.5-liter four-cylinder.
  • The Eclipse Cross eschews navigation for 2026, forcing customers to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to get around.

In one fell swoop, Mitsubishi has announced model year updates for their entire US lineup. There are a number of notable changes including a facelifted Outlander Plug-In Hybrid and a revised Outlander that adopts a new hybrid powertrain.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){

} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
}

Starting with the latter, the 2026 Outlander comes equipped with a new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is similar to the one found in the Eclipse Cross. It features the company’s first mild-hybrid system and promises to “deliver increased confidence and drivability thanks to electrified torque aiding off-the-line acceleration.”

Mitsubishi didn’t mention numbers, but confirmed the hybrid powertrain will replace the current 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque. That isn’t much more than the non-hybrid 1.5-liter, which churns out 152 hp (113 kW / 154 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm).

Besides going hybrid, the 2026 Outlander gains a new LE trim that slots between the entry-level ES and mid-level SE. Buyers will also find a new SEL Black Edition and a Ralliart model. They’re all scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter.

The 2026 Outlander Plug-In Hybrid gets the facelift that was introduced on the regular model last year. As a result, the crossover sports a new front bumper, a revised grille, smoked taillights, and new 20-inch wheels.

The upgrades continue inside with a redesigned center console, a new Yamaha audio system, and an available 12.3-inch infotainment system. Buyers will also find heated and ventilated front seats, higher quality materials, and improved sound-deadening – among other things.

The crossover arrives in early 2026 and will feature an upgraded plug-in hybrid powertrain. The company was coy on specifics, but confirmed a larger capacity battery that provides a longer electric-only range. Customers can also look forward to a retuned suspension with revised springs and dampers. They’re joined by updated bushings and stabilizer bars.

Moving onto the Outlander Sport, it carries over and offers a Trail Edition for 2026. The company didn’t say much about it, but suggested the model will have unique wheels and graphics.

Last but not least, the 2026 Eclipse Cross loses embedded navigation as the company apparently believes most people would rather use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, SEL and SEL Touring trims gain newly standard “Eclipse Cross” hood badging.

Tesla’s Bigger Model Y Just Leaked And It’s Packing More Than Extra Legroom
  • Tesla Model Y L features three-row, six-seat layout with longer wheelbase and taller profile.
  • Documents reveal 455 hp upgrade over standard Model Y’s 443 hp output.
  • China launch confirmed for fall, U.S. debut expected but not officially announced yet.

It’s not quite official, but it’s close. We’ve known for a while that Tesla was working on a six-seater version of the Model Y, and now, thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), we’re getting our first official look.

Documents filed with the MIIT reveal a long-wheelbase version of the Model Y, dubbed the Model Y L, configured with three rows of seating. But it’s not just about added space. Based on the filings and industry reports, this version brings more power along with the stretched cabin, signaling a meaningful update to the existing lineup. It’s expected to launch in China this fall, with a North American debut potentially following soon after.

A Six-Seat Layout With Extra Room

First and foremost, let’s break down the details. This new Model Y L features six seats, not seven, so expect it to roll out with captain’s chairs in the second row. It’s 4,976mm long or 186mm (7.3 inches) longer than the normal Model Y. It’s also 44mm (1.7 inches) taller. The extra length isn’t just an extended body like we’ve seen in vehicles such as the Ford Expedition Max.

Instead, Tesla extended the wheelbase to 3,040mm, or 150mm (5.9 inches) longer than the five-seat Model Y. In addition to the added length, the new Y L gets unique wheels, an updated spoiler, new seats, and appears as though it’ll be available with a new gold paint color.

The official documents also reveal that it’ll make more power too. The five-seat Model Y makes 443 horsepower (331 kW), but the Model Y L will arrive with 455 ponies (340 kW). That should help with the additional weight on board. Notably, Tesla has hinted in the past that a seven-passenger version of the Model Y is coming.

Based on the MIIT filing, this isn’t that version. Still, it wouldn’t take much, adding a bench seat or tweaking the current layout could easily accommodate seven passengers. What remains unclear is whether the new seven-seater will follow the previous generation’s approach, using the standard wheelbase with two tightly squeezed seats in the rear, or if Tesla plans to do something different this time around.

The email Tesla sent to U.S. owners in June wasn’t the only hint at a North American launch for the Model Y L. Leaks from internal code point to it being a global model. With the debut of the Model Y L, that update now appears to be just around the corner.

After Stopping A Mass Shooting With His Truck He Got A Surprise From A Dealer
  • Local deacon Richard Pryor was left without a car after ramming the would-be shooter.
  • Demmer Ford thanked the hero by handing him the keys to a blacked-out F-150.
  • A church security guard killed the 31-year-old shooter just before he entered the church.

A quick-thinking deacon stopped what could have been a devastating tragedy at a Michigan church, and now, his community is showing its gratitude in a big way. On June 22, Richard Pryor was running late to a service at Crosspointe Community Church in Wayne when he saw something alarming: a man in a tactical vest walking toward the building with firearms.

}
});

Pryor jumped into action, striking the man with his pickup truck and preventing him from gaining access to the church. Now, a local car dealership has stepped up and gifted the deacon a brand-new ride.

Had the deacon not taken the decisive action he did, there could have been a mass shooting. The church was full of people at the time, and according to police, 31-year-old Brian Anthony Browning had gotten out of his Nissan pickup carrying both a long gun and a handgun before walking toward the building.

A Chilling Encounter Outside a Packed Church

While Browning had no criminal history, his mother is a member of the church, and he’s understood to have attended two or three services during the past year. Browning opened fire on Pryor’s Ford F-150, but that didn’t stop the deacon. He drove straight into the gunman, giving a church security team member just enough time to intervene and fatally shoot Browning.

Last week, Demmer Ford showed its appreciation by giving Pryor a blacked-out F-150 in recognition of his actions. Speaking at a press conference during the handover, Pryor recalled that he had been on the phone with 911 when he first saw Browning approaching.

But in that moment, he said, “I realized there was no time” and acted right away to protect those inside. “I think that’s where the Lord comes involved because it was not my actions in that sense. I was not really thinking in that process,” he added.

“I’m just so thankful for everybody’s support, for everyone who reached out after the events that Sunday,” he added. “Everything that transpired afterwards was unexpected, but I’m very grateful.”

});

The incident left Pryor without a vehicle for a couple of weeks until the dealer stepped in, ABC reports. While speaking during the handover, Matt Demmer from Demmer Ford thanked the deacon for his heroic actions.

“Us, as a member of the community, we thought what can we do to help and make sure that Richard had something to drive immediately?” he said. “And then thought, how do we do more?”

A Jury Will Decide If A Car’s Tech Helped Kill Or Just Failed To Save A Life
  • Tesla is preparing to defend Autopilot in a jury trial over a deadly 2019 accident.
  • A driver using Autopilot failed to stop and slammed into a parked vehicle.
  • Both the parked SUV’s owner and another person died as a result of the collision.

A fatal crash in Florida is now the center of a legal battle that could have wide-reaching implications for driver-assistance technology. In April 2019, a Tesla Model S sped through an intersection and collided with a parked SUV. The crash killed 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon and severely injured her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo.

More than five years later, a jury is being asked to decide whether Tesla’s Autopilot system played a role, or if responsibility rests solely with the driver.

The driver, George McGee, admitted to officers who responded to the scene that he was using Autopilot incorrectly. “I was driving, I dropped my phone, and looked down,” McGee said. “I ran the stop sign and hit the guy’s car.” He’s already settled with the families of Angulo and Leon. Now, those same families are about to begin a new battle with Tesla in court.

Autopilot on Trial

The case has been simmering for years, according to NPR, but what sets it apart is that a jury, not a judge, will now weigh in on Tesla’s Autopilot and its role in the crash. The plaintiffs argue that McGee believed the car could drive itself and that Autopilot should’ve stopped on its own or at least kept the driver engaged. McGee doesn’t take that view, though. “I was highly aware that was still my responsibility to operate the vehicle safely,” he said to authorities.

Tesla has long defended its position that drivers acknowledge that they’re ultimately in control and responsible behind the wheel. To this point, it’s been highly successful in court based on that argument.

In fact, when this case first made the news back in 2019, it also leaned on McGee’s own account of events that included his inattentiveness. It mentioned that again when defending itself in 2023. “The driver later testified in the litigation he knew Autopilot didn’t make the car self-driving and he was the driver,” it said.

adpushup.triggerAd(“9b1169d9-7a89-4971-a77f-1397f7588751”);
}
});

The trial begins today, July 14, and could set a major precedent either way. Judges have already found that drivers are responsible for driving, even if a system is capable of doing some of the work.

A Potential Turning Point for Automakers

On the flip side, if the jury in this case disagrees and puts liability on Tesla, it could mark a moment where Tesla, and by extension other automakers, have to consider what they’ll do to ensure less legal liability. Regardless of the outcome, the trial could shape how juries and automakers view driver-assist technology in the years to come.
